Drillbit Taylor

Drillbit Taylor

Cast: Owen Wilson, Troy Gentile, Nate Hartley, Leslie Mann, Alex Frost, David Dorfman.

Directed by Steven Brill, written by Seth Rogen and Kristofor Brown.

Story: Bum protects kids from a bully.

Running Time: 1hr 42 minutes.

UK Certificate 12A.

Drillbit Taylor's been getting some stick in the press, but it's actually pretty funny.

Owen Wilson accepts payment in pocket fluff. There's a definite influence of Superbad here, and that's no bad thing. The little fat kid (Troy Gentile) even looks like Jonah Hill and is just as funny, while Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) gets the co-writer's credit and Judd Apatow (the current comedy mastermind) is producer. It would've been funny enough without Owen Wilson, but the assistance of his gentle charm lifts it to another level. Granted, it's not as densely packed with humour as Hot Fuzz and makes no real attempt to work as a drama, but the comedy is strong enough for none of that to matter.

Drillbit Taylor is an uplifting shallow comedy that deserves more success than it's currently getting. Definitely one to catch for comedy fans.

I enjoyed this film: 4/5

I think the average moviegoer will enjoy it: 4/5

Testosterone Satisfaction Rating: 0/5
