2010 Forwardcharm Fantasy F1 Rules

Welcome to the 2010 Forwardcharm Fantasy F1 championship.

The idea is simple. Pick a team, change it as many times as you like throughout the year and score points when your selections do well in the real Formula One Championship. The game is just for fun, it costs nothing to enter and you can enter multiple teams if you like. For the inaugural year at least, there will be no prizes, it really is just a bit of fun.

To enter, simply create your team from the link above. There is no "team budget", so you can chop and change as many times as you like for no penalty, except during a race weekend. Each selection has a weighting, decided by me and is likely to change during the season if they do better or worse than expected. The selection's score is multiplied by its weighting at the start of the race, thus giving the less orthodox selections more chance to contribute to your team's score. For example, Jenson Button may have a weighting of 1 as he is likely to score lots. Bruno Senna, however, may be less likely to do well and so his weighting may be 7, meaning he scores seven times as much as Button does. The effect of this weighting is to level the playing field - you won't win if you play safe with the big boys, you'll only make it to the top if you can predict the underdogs' success.

The weighting of any selection will only ever change while the site is locked during a race. This means that once you pick a driver, you can be confident that his weighting won't change before the start of the next race. In practice, the weightings rarely change after the first two or three races.

Scoring

Your team consists of three drivers and one car - that's all. Scoring is calculated at the end of each race weekend according to the results listed on www.f1.com. In the real F1 championships, points are awarded in accordance with the FIA standard:

  • 25 points for 1st place,
  • 18 points for 2nd place,
  • 15 points for 3rd place,
  • 12 points for 4th place,
  • 10 points for 5th place,
  • 8 points for 6th place,
  • 6 points for 7th place,
  • 4 points for 8th place,
  • 2 points for 9th place,
  • 1 point for 10th place.
  • In the Forwardcharm Fantasy F1, points are awarded as follows.

  • Each driver scores championship points for his final placing in accordance with the points he scores in the real F1 championship.
  • Each driver scores the same championship points for his qualifying position as listed on the Qualifying Results pages on f1.com.
  • Each driver that finishes gets an extra 2 points. The finishing rule has changed for Turkey 2010 because f1.com was making silly rulings. The last driver to get the finish bonus is now the lowest classified driver who crosses the line to take the chequered flag. Anyone classified as ahead of this driver gets the finishing bonus even if he himself crashed on his last lap. ("Classified" refers to the finishing order listed on f1.com)
  • Fastest lap is worth another 10 points.
  • Your car generates points from both drivers in that team. The unweighted score for your car is the average of the unweighted scores of the two drivers in that F1 team.
  • ALL points are multiplied by that selection's weighting, as described above. The effect of the weighting is that crap drivers and cars score more if they do well.
  • Notes

There are some other points to bear in mind:

  • No changes will be permissible once the race weekend starts. The site is generally locked down at midnight on the night of the Friday before the race.
  • If your selection doesn't take part in the race for any reason, they don't score any points. If they are replaced then you get the replacement in your team instead. If your driver moves to another team without a break, you stick with that driver.
  • With the FIA's penchant for deciding race results weeks after an event has finished, we have to draw the line somewhere. If the results change by the end of the day of the race, I'll update the scores, but not if they change after that. Of course, if it turns out that I've made a mistake (perish the thought) then I'll correct the scores at any time.
  • Privacy

This site is not secure. Your password will be transmitted over the internet in plain-text and so could potentially be read by dodgy Nigerians. For this reason, it is advisable not to use a password that you use elsewhere. If you forget your password, simply send an email to jimbo@forwardcharm.co.uk from the email address that you registered and I will reset it.

That's all. If you have any problems, please let me know so I can do something about it.

I hope you enjoy playing Forwardcharm Fantasy F1.
