Hot Fuzz is the latest collaboration from the Shaun of the Dead team, so it's got a lot to live up to. Happily, it easily surpasses those expectations.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost ponder the legality of a pot-riddled Cornetto, for medicinal purposes. Simon Pegg stars as the London supercop assigned to the sleepy village of Sandford, partnered with his Shaun co-star Nick Frost - a dozy but amiable cun'ry copper and the stand-out performer. Aiding and abetting them is a host of British comedy talent - just look at that cast list of familiar faces. The where-have-I-seen-him-before award goes to David Threlfall, playing a posh and hopeless stage actor, a million miles from his straggly Frank Gallagher character in Shameless. The humour is varied enough to tickle everyone's funny bone and the gags are extremely densely packed - there's hardly a second without something to giggle at, visual or throwaway, and the hit rate is exceptional. Most of the cinema were heartily laughing out loud for the vast majority of the movie, and even during the actiony finale, the fun factor is maintained. And I'm so glad they've kept the bish-bash-bosh lightning fast cut scenes from Shaun - they work so well.

Hot Fuzz is massive fun and highly recommendable to everyone. It's early days yet, but I reckon this is the comedy hit of 2007. Great stuff.

I enjoyed this film: 5/5

I think the average moviegoer will enjoy it: 5/5

Testosterone Satisfaction Rating: 1/5 - some effing and even a c or two, plus a couple of moments of some surprisingly graphic violence - but it's all in good fun.

To enjoy this film you should be: amenable to British comedy.

Hot Fuzz was released in the UK on 14th February 2007.
