The Love Guru

The Love Guru

Cast: Mike Myers, Jessica Alba, Romany Malco, Justin Timberlake, Verne Troyer, Ben Kingsley, Meagan Good.

Directed by Marco Schnabel.

Story: New age silliness.

Running Time: 1hr 27 minutes.

UK Certificate 12A.

Now this is one to split opinion. Love it or hate it? Depends how silly you are.

Jessica Alba and Mike Myers discover the secret of happiness is a big beard and a teapot impression. Mike Myers is something of an acquired taste, and you certainly need that taste to appreciate The Love Guru. Myers sprinkles his daftness all over everything and it will turn you off the whole movie if you can't laugh with him. His attempts to become the "new Deepak Chopra" (i.e. the number 1 self-help guru) are deeply dippy, but his infectious childishness won me over, with his inane jokes and potty humour. Romany Malco, who was so good in The 40 Year Old Virgin and Blades of Glory, does his career no harm as the straight man - watch out for him, he's a star in the making.

The Love Guru is great fun if you can dial into Mike Myers' puerile humour - dead boring if you can't.

I enjoyed this film: 4/5

I think the average moviegoer will enjoy it: 2/5

Testosterone Satisfaction Rating: 1/5 - Jessica Alba is always worth 1. At least, I'd give her 1.

To enjoy this film you should be: silly.

The Love Guru was released in the UK on 1st August 2008.
