Pandastic! Kung Fu Panda is one of the very best animations - very best movies of any kind - to hit
the multiplex in 2008.
Jack Black could be the new Robin Williams voice king on the strength of this - and don't worry if you can't stand him
because there's a big fat panda in the way and he's adorable. Dustin Hoffman is brilliant as the diminutive trainer, while
the other star names pass largely unnoticed (Angelina Jolie was the tigress? Really?) The story is traditional
family-friendliness wrapped in a kung fu sesame seed bun and the slapstick is perfectly executed.
There's more than a little Kung Fu Hustle in there, as well as countless serious martial
arts movies, and it's all played with a non-offensive tone, giving appropriate respect to the art itself.
Kung Fu Panda is brilliant - so much fun, thanks largely to Jack Black's lead character, and easily good enough to
challenge the very best animations. You'll be making chop-socky noises all week.
