The morning after a Vegas stag party sees the revellers wake up in a trashed hotel room with chickens, a tiger, a baby
and no sign of a groom... If this was Lost they'd spin a whole series out of that kind of setup. Fortunately what we
get is a fast-paced and often funny jaunt through the guys' journey to figure out what exactly happened. Presumably they're
hoping we haven't seen Dude, Where's My Car?
For a movie with a potentially heavy return, there aren't many big names. You may recognise Bradley Cooper from
He's Not That Into You, Justin Bartha may ring a bell from National Treasure and Ed Helms
will be familiar to fans of the US version of The Office, but aside from Heather Graham's relatively small part that's
about as big as the names get. Not that it matters, because they're all pitch-perfect thanks no doubt to director Todd
Phillips, who is adept at this kind of blokey hokum, having previously masterminded Road Trip, Old School,
School for Scoundrels and Starsky and Hutch.
The Hangover is an entertaining, undemanding and fun way to lose a couple of hours, without the likelihood of waking up
to a tiger licking your gonads (and there's a sentence that's never been typed before).
I enjoyed this film: 4/5
I think the average moviegoer will enjoy it: 3/5
Testosterone Satisfaction Rating: 2/5 - Heather Graham flops out a bap to feed
a sprog and there are some other anonymous mammaries, drug use and f-bombs. And a violent naked Chinese man.
To enjoy this film: be a little bit blokey.
The Hangover was released in the UK on 12th June 2009.
