Flushed Away

Flushed Away has to be the most eagerly awaited animation this year - and it's everything you'd hope it could be.

Made by the Aardman guys (Wallace and Gromit) under the Dreamworks banner, there was almost no chance of it being a duffer. Choosing to follow the computer graphics path instead of the painstaking claymation avenue, but still unmistakably Aardman, it maintains the tradition of having gags left, right and centre, with in-jokes, background details and silly big-eyed creatures, all of which contribute to the masterful whole. Hugh Jackman and Kate Winslet take the centre stage as rats Roddy and Rita, though their voices are barely recognisable - Jackman in particular showing his versatility with this and The Prestige. Ian McKellen tops the fun as a larger-than-life toad baddie, supported by a host of British talent and accompanied by a troupe of hilarious singing slugs. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Flushed Away is superb - as detailed as Cars, as funny as Wallace and Gromit and touching the toes of the imperious Shrek. Go and see it, you'll love it.
