Now where have I seen this before ... hmmm ... well, put it this way, if I saw Yes Man back-to-back with
Liar Liar, I'd have trouble remembering which bits came from which movie.
Age has somewhat diminished Jim Carrey's Jim-Carreyness, which will come as a blessed relief to some, though he still
has the occasional gurn for old-time's sake. In this outing, the "plot" sees Jim having to agree with everything - to
take advantage of every opportunity that arises. It'll only take you ten seconds of pondering to figure out why the
premise wouldn't work, but that's not important in this kind of movie - it's just a fluffy bit of fun, loosely based on
slightly barking British comedian/presenter guy Danny Wallace, who you may recognise from that series where he started
his own country for a laugh, and that Horizon documentary about robots. No really, you'd recognise him if you saw him.
In fact you can see him - in the wedding shower scene, there's a slightly out-of-place guy sitting behind Carrey
chatting to a girl at the bar. That's Danny. Anyway, he said yes to everything for six months and
wrote a book about it .
And this is nothing like that, except for the basic "yes" bit.
I quite enjoyed Yes Man, it had some choice funny moments, and it had Zooey Deschanel (Trillian from
Hitchhiker's Guide). It's no Bruce Almighty, but it's good clean fun and will
make you feel good too.
I enjoyed this film: 3/5
I think the average moviegoer will enjoy it: 4/5
Testosterone Satisfaction Rating: 1/5
To enjoy this film: have some fun with it.
Yes Man was released in the UK on 26th December 2008.
