A pun like the title of this movie isn't the best start a movie could have. Fortunately, the rest is as sweet as honey from a candy-coated bee's bum.

Renee Zellweger thinks that Jerry Seinfeld looks taller on the telly. OK, my opinion should be taken with a pinch of honey as I do tend to like animations more than most. Bee Movie isn't the best by any means - the animation's a little simplistic and noticeably short of the class-leaders, but it still has the zing of a classic and contains many genuinely funny lines. It's educational too, containing plenty of juicy details about our little furry stingers (albeit geared at a kids' level) so little Timmy will be learning as he watches Jerry Seinfeld make friends with a human (it turns out bees could speak all along and chose not to. Who knew?) and go on to try and reclaim all the honey that us meanie humans have been stealing from them. Silly story, but it's for kids really - it just happens that it's charming enough to appeal to adults too.

Bee Movie tries nothing new, but is nevertheless a competent addition to the ever-growing morass of animations. Aimed at kids but with a few cheeky adult references, it ticks all the boxes for a family day out.

I enjoyed this film: 5/5
