Accepted

Accepted

Cast: Justin Long, Jonah Hill, Adam Herschman, Blake Lively, Lewis Black.

Directed by Steve Pink.

Story: Some rejected college kids start their own college.

Running Time: 1hr 33 minutes.

UK Certificate 12A.

Accepted is a modern take on that classic frat-prat comedy Animal House. And by modern, I mean sanitised. And rubbish.

Justin Long comes to a sensible decision about his agent. Low-brow comedies don't have to have plausible plots. The laughter is more than enough to take our mind off that - so when we start thinking, "that's daft, that'd never work," we know the comedy isn't working. Accepted is another of those movies that has a lazy feel about it - as if it's been dashed together with everyone saying. "that'll do," instead of working on it until it's right. There's the occasional chuckle, but nothing close to Jim Belushi in a toga, or climbing up the outside of the girls' dorm to get a peek inside. And that's another thing - this movie is aimed at late teens, so why on earth is there no nudity in it? That's how you get the kids in, everyone knows that. A few bikinis just doesn't cut it, we need to see some naughty bits - and the more gratuitous the better. Steve Pink is a first-time director and it certainly shows - I only saw it yesterday and I'm struggling to remember any funny bits at all.

Accepted doesn't deserve a cinema release, it's straight-to-video material. Although there will be a fair amount of young-minded people who'll enjoy it, there will be a lot more who won't. Do yourself a favour and re-watch Animal House instead, it's way better in every respect.

I enjoyed this film: 2/5

I think the average moviegoer will enjoy it: 3/5

Testosterone Satisfaction Rating: 1/5 - no nudity whatsoever, nothing vaguely offensive at all. PG material.

To enjoy this film you should be: under 20.

Accepted was released in the UK on 6th October.
